Yesterday I had a pretty good run for 7.3k but at the end my knee was hurting. After I showered and relaxed it started hurting a little more. By the morning it was really hurting when I moved my leg at all. Unless I kept my leg straight the pain was pretty bad. I went home and got a knee brace at lunch but that did not help much. So tonight I am sitting in bed and it feels good. But if I climb the stairs it is painful. I am thinking I am not going to be able to race this weekend so I am pretty upset.

It is my right knee so I grabbed this photo from http://www.medicinenet.com/ and marked the area that hurts in red. It is really the front inside with no pain really any place else. If I had not done it running I might have thought I bumped it and bruised it. Feels a lot like a bruise when I touch the area in red I marked on the photo. There is no discoloration so that is not the case.

I am going to play it by ear and see how I feel the rest of the week. Look for an update in a few days. Right now I will just have to nurse it with a few pints. ;)

  1. I’m still guessing either patellar ligament or iliotibial band by the part of the diagram you’re pointing at, but I don’t even know enough to be dangerous. If it is either of those stretching those out more might be your solution, after RICE (rest, Ice, compression, elevation)? Best advice, that guys can’t usually take … DOCTOR!
