Fat Tire from New Belgium Brewery in Fort Collins, Colorado has been rumored to be coming to Iowa for some time now. Today I found some proof and was able to get a little more detail.
I took the photo at Hy-Vee today when I was picking up a new keg of Boulevard Paie Ale for the pub. I was able to get confirmation that September 8th it is be available. That is great news! Now the bad news, it is only available in 22 oz. bottles. But that can hardly be considered bad new. I asked about kegs and the guys said it is only being offered as an evaluation to see how it does in the Iowa market. I can live with bottles until they start selling kegs.
So everyone go down to the Hy-Vee in September and start buying all the Fat Tire they have. Otherwise they might not continue to carry it. Just maybe they will start selling kegs by winter.
And if you really want to help the cause then contact New Belgium and tell them you want Fat Time in Iowa. Demand it!

This is GREAT!! Everyone at the brewery appreciates the efforts of bloggers like yourself spreading the gospel of good brew. We are incredibly excited to finally be bringing our beers to Iowa and want to thank all the great folks that have reached out to us and are making us feel incredibly welcome. Our first consumer event will be in Des Moines, Iowa on September 8th at El Bait Shop. You can visit http://www.bikeiowa.com/asp/calendar/Ride.asp?m=&e=2787 for more info. Hope to see you all there or at one of our other many upcoming events statewide.

Thanks for posting a comment Joel. We are all looking forward to the day Fat Tire is flowing at the local pubs. I myself can’t wait to get a keg of Fat Tire in my home pub.
Cheers,

… and while you’re on the topic of the El Bait Shop, thought I’d let you know that a co-worker of mine who is a member of the Iowa Brewers Union will be pouring from a keg of one of his home brews at that locale on Thursday Sept. 6 (and he’s also on the schedule for Oct. 11 and Nov. 15). Evidently, one of the club members will be on tap every Thursday night. The program is going to be called “Jimmy Carter Happy Hour” in honor of the president who legalized home brewing back in 1978. Not sure what will be on tap on Sept. 6 (except he said it would be a strong one).
Thanks for the information Dan. I will try to make it down there and blog about some of the brews.
Cheers,
Ed
