The Hobbit

The Lord of the Rings were my favorite books growing up. The movies were great as well. I feel bad for my kids that they did not read the books before seeing the movies. For sure they are the best movie triogy ever created. And yes I am a Star Wars fan as well.

Most fans could not see anyone other than Peter Jackson directing or producing The Hobbit. But Jackson and New Line have been fighting over money for a long time now. At one point New Line said that Jackson would NEVER be involved in The Hobbit if it went to the silver screen. Didn’t their mother tell them to never say never? Then I remember that J.R.R. Tolkien foundation (or whatever it is) said if Jackson did not make it then no one would.

You can stop holding your breath. It looks like The Hobbit is on track from what CNN reported today. Jackson will be an executive producer but not the director. Director is yet to be named. They have some big shoes to fill that is for sure. The Lord of the Rings trilogy made 3 billion dollars at the movies. 3 billion.

The report is the The Hobbit will be split into 2 films shot at the same time. Release will be 2010 for the first one and 2011 for the second. Can’t wait!

  1. word… LOTR is pretty good, but I still think Star Wars was the best… I heard some rumors a while back that the two part movie would be about 3/4 Hobbit & the rest would fill in the hole between Hobbit & LOTR… not too sure I like that idea… JRRT wrote some stuff on what happened between the two books, but little is published and none of it is complete… I don’t like the idea of PJ & New Line writing more into the storyline… they need to be careful if that’s what they’re going to do
    cheers!

  2. Yes, it will be interesting to see how they break up the movie if they just stay true to the book. I will have to go back and either read the book or listen to it on MP3s. I downloaded the entire book on mp3s a few years ago. Can’t remember who did the reading but it is pretty good. Great if you are on a long trip.

  3. Sup? Speaking of new movies. Did you catch the 6 min trailer for the new Batman. It looks rad!

  4. Yep, saw that last weekend at the theater when I took Noah to I am Legend. I am Legend was good and worth seeing as well. I think Keith Ledger is going to be a better Joker than Jack was. All the other Batman movies pretty much sucked compared the new ones.

Remember when we ordered a burgers at Venice Beach and Christian Bale was right in front of me. Yea! That was a riot. I think I helped him find the napkins.

  5. I remember that. Out on that pier. Dude was short.

  6. Yes, I was thinking he was much bigger as well. I am pretty sure I could take Batman now. ;)
