Sunshine Released this Week – Finally!
I have been anticipating the release of Sunshine this week. We rented it and watched it last night. It was Danny Boyle’s seventh film along with Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, A Life Less Ordinary, Alien Love Triangle, The Beach and 28 Days Later. I knew is was going to be good but to be honest it was even better than I was anticipating. If you are a Sci-Fi fan then this has to be one of the best sci-fi films ever. There are not too many good sci-fi films these days and Sunshine sure gave us something to get excited about. If you have been living in a cave and have never heard Sunshine before then shame on you. Here is a recap from the web…
“The premise of SUNSHINE,” explains producer Andrew Macdonald, “is that in 50 years from now the Sun is dying. It is no longer providing the energy and the light that mankind needs to survive on Earth. The entire global community pools its resources to send a mission into space to deliver a bomb to reignite the part of the Sun that is failing. Our story concerns the eight astronauts and scientists who lead this mission. On their journey towards the Sun the crew stumble upon the ship that was sent on the same mission seven years previously, the Icarus I, drifting in space. From this point on things start to go very wrong and it’s about how the crew react under the enormous pressure of their endeavor to save mankind.”
What is so good about this movie is how original it was. Today’s Sci-Fi movies seem to be just imitations of other movies. Not much if any is released that is new. But I found Sunshie to be original, the script is great, the the cinematography is spectacular. I can’t imagine any sci-fi fan giving this movie anything less and 5 out of 5 stars. Even Terra liked it and she is not a Sci-Fi fan.
The only negative is that it won’t be released in HD-DVD only BlurRay. Damn the studios! Oh well, can’t win them all. But Sunshine is now one of my top 5 movies.
