Workout Update

Here is an excerpt from my workout log I have been keeping.

“On a couple of good notes, I went to buy jeans this weekend. I don’t think I have done that in about 6 months. I have dropped from a 35/36 waist to a 32/33. I had to keep getting different pants to try on and and going down in size. Felt real nice. I really have not dropped any weight yet either. Just different dimensions. I will check in the morning on my official weight and see if I am down from my 196.

Also after working out tonight I went into the basketball court. After a little shooting around I tried to dunk a few. I have not dunked in I don’t know how long. I would guess 6 years? Maybe longer. I had a little trouble holding onto the ball and getting my jumping mechanics back but after about 10 failed tries I grabbed a soccer ball instead. I dunked that about 7 times then grabbed the basketball again. Dunked that about 5 times. Felt incredible. Walked out of the gym with a big smile on my face.

6’1” and 40 years old and back dunking. Can’t wait to squat tomorrow!”

  1. GOOD FOR YOU! I was running pretty regularly this past summer but winter came and poof! the was over. I had pledged on hitting the weights again this winter so I could be ready for the summer but ack! I’m still sitting on my couch.

Squats=pain…but oh it hurts so good!!

5’5″ and almost 40 bringing up the rear!

  2. I was running like a mad man over the summer. I did a few 5k races for the first time in my life. I really thought I was in good shape and looking fit. Then my wife took a photo right after a race and I had my shirt off. I looked like a fat-tard! Running just did not do it for me. Then I started to only run a mile but as fast as I could at the gym then hit the weights right away. Man, total different. It totally changed my body and I did not really lose a pound. I dropped from 19% body fat to 15.6% in 2 months. But I bet I dropped 8-10 pounds of fat and replace it with muscle. Adding the weights was key for me.

  3. That’s awesome bro. I remember when I dropped to 180 a few years back and was able to dunk a bball again. It just was an indescribable feeling.

  4. WEIGHTS are totally the key to fat loss!!! That coupled with eating clean and you’ve got yourself a hotty body my friend!!

  5. This is awesome Ed, I was amazed how lean’n'mean you were looking while white-knuckling the tattoo table. I too have lost any flabber I had, but haven’t been able to gain much mass YET. I’m sure it’s because I wasn’t dedicated enough with the weight/cardio routines or the protein powders. I was for about 6 months, but that’s when I lost the fat, and inches of the waist, but then I was having a hard time keeping up with drinking the protein powder, and getting those 5-6 eating times in…I got lazy about it. I’ve started again, and I’m going to be very strict about it and hopefully will start to see some formations!
Good job though man….now just think if you drank less of those barley hops! :-P

  6. Ed. i remember a bball game i went to several years ago. you were high scorer, i believe 38 points. i saw you throw the ball from three quarters down the court. the ball went in and it was the point that won the game for your team. i still have the newspaper with your picture on the front page. i will give it to you someday. scientists say that people who exercise regularly have younger cells and age less than people who do not exercise. just keep moving. shelby
