Blog Rush - The House of HusarI have had the BlogRush widget on my site for a while now. I check the stats for it every few days. My posts get between 100 to 500 impressions but little or no clicks from the impressions. I don’t have a high traffic blog so I am happy with what I get. Now I know CJ and maybe one or two other visitors have it on their blogs. I am pretty sure I am going to take the widget off since I really don’t get any traffic from it. but I am wondering if anyone else gets any value from it?

If you have ever looked at the widget it shows the blog title that you post in hope to get people to click them. BlogRush places your post based on categories to like blogs and the words in the post title. So I wonder how much traffic and how many impressions this post will get since I am questioning the value of BlogRush? I will post an update after a few days when there are some stats on the result.

  1. Yes, even John Chow, who optimized his blogrusch feed to only show his best posts has a click through rate of less than 0.1%.
What most people seem to agree on is that the widget is often too low on the blog (unlike yours). Since I have very poor results with it too, I moved it to the footer.
What I did in the past was look at it myself en click through. That way at least some people get something out of it.

  2. I found no value in it. Fact is I have found little value in a lot of the “community” blog stuff. I’m unsure how you found my blog to do ASMW, I’m glad you did though.

I have had a great time reading your blog. But it is not because of a widget on the side bar that got me coming here. It was your interest in a project that I am working on.

It really took me about 2 or 3 weeks to start visiting on a regular basis. I come to a site for content, no to see what cool plug-ins people have.

Blogrush was just a craze to me. After about 1 month of very little results, and problems in at the start of blogrush, I stopped using the program. Also the fact that if it is not high enough on your blog then they will kick you from the program.

I’m sure to some it will hold value, and if you have success with it let me know. I don’t make hardly any money on my blog any more because PayPerPost killed my page rank with google. I can’t justify subjecting my readers to the slow load times with blogrush, blogcatalog, and other programs like that.

It could be that I just had way to much loading on the screen. I just didn’t want to manage it really. It takes time to manage a blog, or you can just blog for the fun of it. Which is what I do now.

  3. I just noticed that you have a catpacha or what ever they are now. I would get rid of it.

    1) it is really not needed with Akismack
    2) it doesn’t redirect back to the page you were at
    3) imo they are annoying.

  4. catpacha? I am not using one on here at all Mouseclone? Let me know where you say it. It is not in the comments posting at all.

Akismack does what i need it to for the span. Maybe one in a few 1000 will get by but I catch them right away.

But about the blog catalog widgets. I do see good result with those for visitors. You just visit a few that show up on them and then you get back a good handfull.

But BlogRush is coming off here pretty quick. I might get 1 click for very 1000 impressions. And that is at best.

You might think about going back to PPP. They are dropping the Giggle Ranking very soon.

  5. It was in my Opera browser when I first used it to post a comment. I don’t know if it drops a cookie or not for posting a comment but I have not cleaned cookies out and I have not had a problem again.

As for PPP, I have just seen my page rank drop because of them. I’m trying to see if it will go back up after having removed all of the prior post. I don’t worry about PR with Google much other than I was getting good traffic before the drop in PR.

I may revisit PPP in a few months. When I get my traffic back up. I use it as a second business on my taxes. This way I can count my office space at the apartment 2 times. According to tax laws I’m allowed to claim the same space twice for 2 different businesses.
