New Husar.us Photo Blog
I have created a photo blog that I put into beta this weekend. It is the first non WordPress site I have done an a while now. The new photo blog all surrounds the iPhone and an app called Polarize. This is the same app that I did a review on called ProjectPolaroid. It had a recent app name change. Polarize makes the iPhone camera bearable and I have become a little obsessed with taking Polaroids on my iPhone lately. So much so that bought a second Flick account this weekend specifically just for my iPhone Polaroids.
I searched and searched for the best tool/script/app to build a photo blog that met all my needs. I started a new WordPress blog but it was a little over kill so I deleted it. Plus I had one big requirement, I wanted to make the photo blog to pull all the Polaroids from Flickr without me lifting a finger. That was the big catch that made it so hard to find the right tool/script/app.
After a long search looking at every gallery app and Flash gallery on the web I was coming up empty handed. They all had pieces but not the complete package. In the end I couldn’t find anything. So I pick an app called Flogr that did about 60% of what I needed. From there I customized it and rewrote enough of the code for it to do almost exactly what I want. The only draw back I was running into was that I wanted the photo blog to only show my Polaroids and none of my other photos I have on Flickr. For that to happy I had to get a new Flickr account. At less than $25 per year for a Flickr Pro account it was not that big of deal. Now I have customized Flogr so much that I am not going to be able to rely on Flogr’s future releases. I will have to spit off my version as a new project.
So in the end all I need to do now is upload my Polaroids to the new Flickr account from my iPhone and the new photo blog will get the new Polaroids without me doing anything. I have to say I learned a lot about the Flickr API doing this. Very cool stuff.
I am calling this a beta since I need to do a few things yet. You can access the site at http://polaroids.husar.us. I have also added a Polaroid link to the top navigation that opens in a new window.
Twitter It!

I dig the photo blog. Any chance you can pull the EXIF date and add it to the caption? The date seems to be the upload date of Dec. 13th.
The EXIF data is working. But since the Polaroids are created after the initial photo is taken the EXIF is wiped out unfortunately. But with a unedited photo it is there.
The date is when it was uploaded to Flickr and not when it was shot. As I start to add new ones you will see the date working correctly. The best thing about the photo blog is that I have to do nothing to it. I just upload to Flickr and the site pulls them from there. Really easy to maintain that way.
But I do wish the EXIF was carried over.
Liking the look of this might have to have a word with you about how easy to set up if I get the Iphone I’m hoping for . . for Chrissymas
Easy as pie. But you need a Flickr account if you want to use what I put together. I play to create some generic graphics and release the version I modified. Flogr is not maintained any more from what I can tell.
I got the flcikr account, but by the looks of what you’ve posted Ill need to open a seperate account for the Iphone Photo’s, also does the poloroids software work on any photo’s taken or is it just a Iphone app
You don’t really need a fresh account. The Flickr API is limited in what is can pull from the site. The issue comes in with the tag page. Flickr only gives you a way to pull tags from all your photos. It would be great if they only allowed you to pull from a single set. So if you did not use the tag page you would be okay. Also the sets page since it would pull all your sets. Not just a select few. If you can do without those two pages then it will work. What you do is give your photos you want to show a special tag. Then it will only show those photos it finds tagged with that specific tag.
