Session 8 at Mercy Seat

About to start session 8 at The . Not sure what is on the agenda for tonight. Look for a photo in about an hour of Mark bringing the pain.

The photo is of skulls on walls watching me in the waiting room.

  1. Hey, I have slowly been watching your tattoo progress and give you props for a very bold FIRST tattoo choice! I love the japanese tattoo style and have been thinking about getting one myself. I see you went to Mercy Seat in KC and sat with Mark. I just wanted to ask what Mark’s rates are per an hour. Can’t wait to see the finished project of the tattoo.

  2. Hello skyleralan. I am going to try and get Mark to reply to you on the rate. I think it might vary a little. For example I asked for a lot of detail. That requires more time and effort but I am not sure if that means a higher rate or not. Also keep in mind in tattoos you get what you pay for. There is a lot of average Joe’s tattooing out there. Get someone you know if really good. They are going to have a higher rate but, heck, you are going to have this on you for the rest of your life. :)

    Let’s see if Mark replies.

Also, check out my photos on flickr. There are a lot more up there that I don’t always post to the blog.

  3. Yeah, I am fine with whatever the rate is as many say “price is no object” with a tattoo. I am willing to travel whatever distance to get a great tattoo. I am from Iowa as well and didn’t find any artists in Iowa or Nebraska that were of interest. I know KC isn’t far either and at one point I was thinking about an artist in Indiana. Again, I am interested in a japanese style tattoo as well and detail is what makes the tattoo. Some artists have an hourly rate so wasn’t sure how that worked for yourself. I am not asking for an “amount” from you because that is obviously personal information. Again, thanks for your help and great piece. I have heard getting your ribs done is the WORST!

  4. Oh sorry, yes it is hourly. Are you in the Des Moines area? I looked as far as Chicago and Cali before I settled on Mark. He is going some really big pieces Japanese style right now. One full body that I say a photo of on Saturday in his book. Are you on FaceBook? There is a guy on there that I can send you to that just got an outline done done by Mark after he found the work Mark did on me. It is pretty impressive. It is a chest/ribs phoenix. My facebook link is on the side nav if you are on FB.

If you go with Mark keep me posted. Heck, even if you don’t I would love to see the work.

  5. salvadore dali is quoted to have said “gentelmen never discuss figures”. however, these are different times and i suppose im a different type of artist (at least a Little less crazy). so, to skyler or anyone interested, my hourly rate is $140. i try to base the overall estimated price on that. thanx for everything, ed.

  6. LOL, after reading the first couple of lines I didn’t expect the rest of Mark’s answer to go the direction it did. Thanks for filling in the gaps and eventually I may have some work for you coming your way. I have heard you are typically booked a couple of months in advance so I will keep that in mind. Ed has been alot of help and I have tracked his progress for awhile. Thanks to both of you and I have been checking out Kelly’s progress as well.
