My Fitness Challenge Project
I have been thinking about building a blog just for fitness updates for some time. To take it one step further my idea was to make it a social blog with more than just me blogging and tracking my fitness goals. I am happy to say that the site is up and rolling along at full speed. This is the reason I have not been blogging much here lately. I have been busy, head down, writing a bunch of custom WordPress plugins to make my idea work how I want. Other than some layout things I am still working no I am very happy with the results so far.
I have a handful of friends posting their fitness activities and challenges. The idea is pretty simple. You post your updates, create fitness challenges for yourself, and track your weight if you like. Everyone that joins is essentially a guest blogger by posting their fitness activities. I have built in a pretty robust tracking system to show your progress to visitors that graphs just about everything. The site even keeps running records for 5k, 10k, half marathon, and marathon.
In addition there is a stats page that shows global results of all members. The tracking and graphing really motivates me to keep running. Here is my fitness dashboard. All members get a dedicated dashboard to view and show their progress.
I would love to have more people willing to post their fitness updates and personal challenges. If you are interested I encourage you to visit My Fitness Challenge. If you are interested in join the site go a head and sign up. I will approve your account and you can start posting your workouts.

Blogging geek Dad that loves to do long runs, ride his bikes, partake in frosty beverages, listen to live music, watch movies, hike high into the mountains, and hang out with his family doing any of the above. Oh, and write code late into the wee hours of the morning.
Excellent idea! I’m toying with joining, but you guys would put me to shame. Still, it would be interesting… Hmmm….
For starters just join. You won’t show on the Member page until you post a workout. In the mean time you can follow everyone and comment on their fitness updates. You will also get the admin updates I send out on new features and progress. Really trying to pitch it as a social thing so the mote the better!
OK, I’m in. Just had about three weeks off after the end of track season so ready to ease back into things. I have taken five bike rides in the past eight days, easing from 7 miles to 12 each time. I will start jogging soon, thinking about Race for the Cure again, Oct. twenty-something.
