Saturday was one hell of a ride or should I say rides. It started out really cloudy so I waited until after noon to jump on my single speed and hit the road.

I headed downtown on my normal rout taking the green belt to Grand. Then jumping over to Grays Lake and around the back side of downtown to El Bait Shop. I had a big plate of nachos, a stout, a porter, and a pale ale. After that I jumped back on my bike and headed back home. Here is the full rout. Total miles was 29.1. There are a few photos from my iPhone so zoom in for a closer look and click on the icons.

After making it back home I was pretty spent. I crashed for a few hours. After I woke up I was planning to meet up with Justin and Sam downtown. But I decided to head over to the Beaverdale Live street party. The Josh Davis Band was playing and I have not see them play in a while. So about 7:30 I threw caution to the wind, jumped on my single speed, and started pedaling to Beaverdale. I met up with a few friends and had a few beers. But the time I left it was almost 11:00. Just a few blocks from Beaverdale Justin and Sam called and said they were downtown still. Against my better judgement I decided to reverse directions and head west to downtown. Fueled by Coors Light and my trusty $100 single speed I bought off eBay I was on my way.

After Justin guided me to Shorty’s we had a Fat Tire and decided to head out. I follow Sam from downtown back to the West Side. For some reason Sam decided to take me through the back side of Denmans. I am on a road bike by the way. Sam is on a mountain bike. It was crazy muddy. I turned into a big mistake. Sam must have fell 6 times. I pretty much ran my bike the entire way. When we finally came out of Denmans over by Valley Junction I was covered in mud. Sam and I parted ways as he took more back road muddy trails and I stuck to the street.

After that I was motoring. Now fueled by the thoughts to being able to crawl into my bed and sleep. The streets were pretty empty and it was a little euphoric riding after 1 AM in the morning through the street of West Des Moines. I finally made it home at 1:30 AM. I had to stop twice to tighten my crank. That was a total bummer. I thought I fixed that but I guess not.

Here is the GPS track from the PM ride. Total miles was 27.6 mile. Zoom into the map and click on some of the icons for a few photos.

Total miles for the day was 56.7 miles. Yeeeehaaa!

Today my legs are pretty beat. I am happy that my Swobo will be delivered on Monday. Next up is a century in the goal on the new bike!

  1. You, sir, are an animal!

I’m not sure if I’d feel safe riding my bike around downtown San Diego at 1am. There far too much weirdness out there for my taste.

  2. One of the perks of living in the Mid West. Ironically enough I just was reading this article about the girl that disappeared in San Diego. http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/06/15/california.missing.teen/index.html

You would think they were talking about a third world country in this sentence,

“There’s no doubt that there is a very robust and vigorous human trafficking problem in that part of the country, in and around San Diego, near the border. Unfortunately, you have to consider the scenarios: She’s dead, she ran away or she was kidnapped,” he said.

    Yikes!
