Acer Aspire One Netbook
I wanted to pick up one of these on Black Friday but did not want to get up a 4:00 AM to wait in a line at Office Max. Call me lazy I guess. But we lucked out anyway. A friend of ours in KC did manage to get one on Black Friday. Then her brother bought her a Dell netbook. So being the good friend she is offered it to us at the same low 199.00 price she paid for it. Score!
When I opened the box today I was not expecting much. I have seen the Acer Aspire on display at Best Buy but I couldn’t pick it up to see how it felt. After opening our new unit and playing with it a little I have to say I am impressed. It is a sold netbook that doesn’t feel cheap at all. The keyboard is a nice size with what appears to be full size keys. Works well with my big hands.
It has Intel Atom processor N270, 1GB RAM,160gb hard drive, web cam, 10.1 inch LED LCD, Card Reader, Wifi 802.11b/g and 3-cell Li-on batter. All in a sparkled blue 1 inch thin case. It has a video out, wired network connection, and 3 USB ports as well all on the sides.
The Aspire One ships with Windows XP. My disgust for anything Windows is making me look up how to install Ubuntu on this little blue baby. After a quick look it appears everything works under Ubuntu right out of the box. Web cam, WiFi, microphone, Java, and Flash player are all covered. So I don’t see any reason to keep Windows on the Aspire One. I am going to install it right now and will post an update tonight.
Here are a few grainy photo from my iPhone.
