Weekend Updates

The family was away in KC last weekend so I headed downtown for some riding with Justin on Saturday morning. I drove to Rassy’s and met Justin there. We rolled out and hit the Farmers Market downtown then kept going East. We managed to go all the way out to the Iowa Fair Grounds. That is the farthest East I have ever riding. Pretty good ride with lots to see along the way. After heading back downtown we ate at Dos Rios then headed over to El Bait Shop for a bike contest. There were lots of people out and lots of bikes. I shot some video so look for that this week.

I have used the iPhone backup battery chargers that I picked up last week. So far I used one at the house. I ran my iPhone down a zero charge then hooked up the backup battery. After just a few minutes the phone had enough charge to turn back on and continue charging. It ended up charging my iPhone to almost a full charge. The battery indicator was just a sliver below a full visual charge. I also used one on the ride Saturday. By the time we hit Dos Rios to eat I was down to about a quarter charge. After eating I was back up to three quarters charge and ready to head back home. It performed just like I hoped it would. My next challenge will be to use the charger while I am riding. I think I will have to mount the iPhone on the top tube and make a support under the battery so it doesn’t wobble around. More on that when I figure it out.

The ride below is a solo ride I did Saturday night after eating and a nap. My legs were fried from the ride out to the fair grounds and back but it was a perfect night. I think I could have rode all night long as nice as it was outside. Little wind and limited traffic on my rout. I stayed on the West side of town. I swung by The Boyd’s in hope they would be outside and I could get a few Fat Tires from their tap. But no one was around so I kept going. The entire rout is below.

I ended up buying a new light on Saturday and tested it on the night ride. I went with the MiNewt Mini-USB Plus. My old one is either broke or I am not using the right charger. Either way I want to start getting in some night riding this week on the dirt and the pavement. I will cover the new light in another blog post and try to get some video riding with it.
