Colorado 14′ers Quest Begins
Noah and I have decided to start climbing the Colorado 14′ers. The highest I have been up is around 13,000 ft and Noah about 11,000 ft. Many people set the CO 14′ers as a goal and now we are joining the quest. This is going to a pretty big adventure spanning many years.
I am making plans right now to spend a week out on CO this July. I am thinking if we can hit three 14′ers this summer I would be pretty happy. I am not sure what Noah’s aptitude will be for the 12,500+ elevation range so that might be a problem. Other than manageable exhaustion the elevation has not effected me much on my trips into the mountain. Everyone reacts a little different so I we will just have to see. I am sure by the time we finish this quest I will be the one that is having a hard time keeping up.
You can plan on a full trip reports, GPS, photos, and video from each attempt over the years. This adventure might turn into its own blog some day. For now here is a Google map of all the CO 14′ers color coded by different areas. I think we will be focusing on the Aspen area with the Red icons starting in July.

Blogging geek Dad that loves to do long runs, ride his bikes, partake in frosty beverages, listen to live music, watch movies, hike high into the mountains, and hang out with his family doing any of the above. Oh, and write code late into the wee hours of the morning.
So…when are you coming out to Cali? We can run up Mt. Whitney sometime. Come on…the wife will drive us up there!
What elevation do you train at for the run? The hardest part for us is going from 1500 ft to 8-9,000 then hiking at 10-14,000 out in Colorado. I have flow out to CO and started hiking the same day with only mild issues from the altitude. Not sure how my son will handle it so going to take a couple days to get acclimated with him when we start our trips. Who knows, he might not do well with the altitude and we have to call off the quest. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Oh, and there is a good chance that I will be in LA in Nov. or Oct. I will keep you posted.
