Just My Luck

Just my luck, yesterday Apple announced the new iMac G5. Considering that I just bought mine less than 2 weeks ago I was interested in what I am going to be mission out on in the newer model.

The first is a built in iSight. The Apple site says the following…

“Video Chatting Made Easy
There’s an iSight camera built into every new iMac, so you can start a video chat (or join one) at a moment’s notice. There’s nothing to buy, nothing to attach, no cords to fumble with, no software to install or configure. Simply start up iChat AV, click your buddy’s video icon and you’re ready to chat with sight and sound — with up to three friends at once. Proper attire suggested.”

After looking at the photos of the iMac. I am not impressed with the internal iSight. First it looks as if you can’t control the position of the camera unless you move the monitor around. With mine iSight have it almost always pointing at my home bar. See if my live video streamif it is up. I don’t want people looking at me all the time. I guess if you only use the iSight for video chat it might be okay.

But the rest of the specs look about the same. Some new software but nothing major.

The coolest part I guess is the remote control. Here is what Apple has to say…

“Remote Possibilities
The new Apple Remote makes it easy to navigate through all the digital goodies you’ve collected and created on your iMac G5. Apple designers simplified the average remote from 60 buttons you’ll never use to just the six buttons you really need. So you can navigate quickly and easily through the Front Row interface to enjoy your music, video, photos and DVDs exactly as you wish. Play. Pause. Skip. Rewind. Crank up the volume. Whatever your pleasure, wherever you sit.”

I wonder if the remote will be available for older iMacs?

Cheers.
