21 Miles at 32º
I took the day off work for a few reasons. My birthday is on Saturday, we already had Friday off at work, and I wanted to give myself an early present. A present in the form of a long run. My longest run in fact. My longest run was a couple of months ago and was 15 miles. I have hiked farther than that in the CO mountains but not running. I woke up this morning and realized that it was freezing out. Not figuratively but actually. It was 32 degrees. I laid in bed and told myself that Friday is going to be 50′s. The run was going to be hard enough. Why make it more painful with the cold...

Sunday was the Du race. I have done this race one time before about three years ago. Back then I did it solo and it was longer with a bike, run, bike format. This year the format was a 2 mile run, 10 bike, 2 run. My friend Ryan was doing the mountain biking and I the runs. I was fully recovered from my half marathon last weekend and expecting a decent couple of runs on a 70 degree fantastic day in Iowa. The relay and solo open group all started together as we headed up into the woods about 1:00 PM. I was about mid pack as everyone settled into the single track. There is only enough enough...

The year is slowly winding down. It is getting colder and the running race season is about over. I did not make my original goal of a full marathon this year. As I have mentioned already injury and a compressed time line were conspiring against me. But on a positive note, I did reduce my half marathon time by almost six and a half minutes. I made the mistake last year of not running after the half in 2010. That is what really killed my full marathon hopes this year. I am determined to not let that happen again. What’s next for a running challenge? I have decided to focus on running...

I have really enjoyed running trails recently. I think as I continue to progress as a runner more miles will happen on dirt compared to concrete or asphalt. There is just something about running in the woods that calls out to me. Maybe it is the non-repetitive strides that are necessary to navigate a dirt trail through the woods compared to pounding the pavement. Whatever it is I can see a race like this in my future within the next few of...

Terra has never rode a subway before. We went down to Hollywood Blvd. one night to get in our tourist fix. It was $30 for a cab and $2.50 on the subway. You have to love mass transit systems! You really get the flavor of the city, not to mention the smells! Jill took these subway photos. Hollywood High is about 2 blocks off the main strip. It is hard to believe anyone really goes there. Not a great area in the...

I was in California this week for the Abobe MAX conference. Terra came with me. Also Randy from work and his wife Jill. We had a great time and had plenty of time to enjoy sunny California. Here is the LA conference center. We ate twice at the Yard House at LA Live. Great selection of beer. Randy and I enjoyed half yards of Moose Drool. I was hungry and ordered brats and pretzels. This is what I got. Of course you can’t take me any where. At the conference they had the biggest projection screen ever! No, really it was the biggest anyone has ever done....
