Amie Street Music Wednesday #20
Amie St. Music Wednesday I can’t believe it is middle of the week already. I guess when you are busy time flies. I did not have a lot of time this week to look around Amie Street for anything new so I am dropping a Josh Davis Band song for you. As many of you know they are a local band to central Iowa. I am pretty good friends with them and do their website. I also like to drink their free beer backstage when I catch their shows. They have a new album dropping in October and I have heard most of the tracks. It is going to a be another good album that deserves much more...

Amie St. Music Wednesday Ahhh, another mid-week tune for all you musically unaware and deprived people. Well not all of you are musically challenged. Well, not challenged but maybe inept. (get on with the track already). This week we have a band called These United States. The track is a good one called The Business from the album titled A Picture of the Three of Us at the Gate to the Garden of Eden. You can check them out on Amie Stree at http://amiestreet.com/artist/these-united-states/ and on the web at http://www.theseunitedstates.net/. There website is one of the few band sites...

Well, this weekend is Des Moines first 35/80 Music Festival. It is the first one I think the city has had of this size. You can check out all the details at http://www.80-35.com/. The music line up looks pretty good. The full list and schedule is below. I plan to go on Saturday and take Noah with me. Kids under 2 get in free. Or at least 2 kids per paid adult do. On the schedule below I put in bold the artists/bands I want to try and catch. There are two free music stages as well as a Kids Zone on Saturday with inflatables, an instrument zoo, and musical performances. It should be a...

Amie St. Music Wednesday I was a little frustrated this week because I wanted to feature Zooey Deschanel‘s band called She & Him. If you don’t know who Zooey is she played Trillian in Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Universe and numerous other movies. But now I can’t find She & Him on Amie Street so I think they removed it. Grrrrrr! Oh well. To top it off The Josh Davis Band also had to remove their new tracks since they had a mix up with their digital distributor. Grrrr. So I was happy to find Stereophonics on Amie Street for this weeks selection....

Amie St. Music Wednesday I looked for about an hour for this weeks song. I went in all kinds of directions in my search. I really did not have a theme to go with this this week so I was all over the music genre in my quest. I ended up picking Vampire Weekend. These guys remind me of sting/police and have a Beatles feel to them at times. A devastating backstroke All the way from France With shiny, shiny cufflinks A shirtsleeve to enhance But in the end they have a unique pop sound to them that is pretty nice listening. Lyrics are fun to follow. The pin-striped men of morning Are...

Amie St. Music Wednesday I don’t listen to a lot of female singers. Not sure why really. It is very few that really catch my interest sonicly. I came across Audra Brown by accident this week. That is one thing I really like about Amie Street. You can find great music without really looking for it. For this weeks ASMW I selected No Cloudy Days since it has been raining for weeks now here in the Midwest. Pretty fitting I think. Audra’s voice sounds really familiar but I can’t place it. Maybe that is what makes me want to listen to more. I picked up the entire album...
