World Cup Weekend

I got nothing done this weekend that I wanted. I pretty much watch World Cup football all weekend. Very happy with the US draw against England. It could have been much worse. A lose would have been pretty bad and harder for them to make it out of the first round. But the biggest moment for me was Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan winning goal against Serbia. This was a pretty important event. It was the first African win in modern FIFA World Cup competition and the first goal in a World Cup on African soil. The nation went crazy and I got goosebumps.

This commercial is certainly my favorite football commercial and maybe of all sports. You might have seen parts of the commercial in a few different commercials. Watching the full length commercial puts it all together. If you have not see the full length version check out the video below.

English Premier League Final Standings

The 2009/2010 English Premier League has come to a close. This season was one of the best and worst since I have been a devout football fan. The race for the title was pretty close with lots of up and downs. Very exciting the last 10 weeks or so. But in the end Arsenal just did not have the players to contend for the title at the end of the season. We settled for third. I would say they lost 10 games due to their goal keeper issues. I am sure they will fix that is the off season.

Here is the final fantasy standings below and the final league standing to the left. I seem to have fell apart around week 30 and just couldn’t recover in time. Lots of parallels with Arsenal’s season in that respect.

You can see my fall in this graph around week 30 and Dave’s rise to power and eventual a season win.

This final chart shows team value. It is clear that after week 24 I took a nose dive. I will have to go back and see what I did, maybe trade related, to fall so fast while Dave continued to climb. Something to watch for next year I think.

Hats off to Dave for a great season. This was Justin’s first fantasy season so I am expecting a better showing for 2010/11 season. Looking forward to the season kicking back up in Aug. I guess I will have to watch some rugby in the mean time.

Barclay’s English Premier: Week 7

I had a great week in our EPL Fantasy League. Check out my domination over Dave and Justin this week. Moving back into first place feels good. It is a long season so I am not too excited. And to top it off Arsenal is playing well and moving up in the league standings.

Here is week 7 totals by player. How about the points on that front line!
