Paper the iPad app
Every so often I find an iOS app that I just love. This past week Paper for the iPad was released and it is one such app. It is drawing/sketching/painting/notes app that I took too right away. For starters is it very simple to use. Basic colors and several pencil/marker/brush options keep it easily enough for a 6-year-old to pick up and know what to do without any instruction. The app is free and come with one ink drawing tool. There is also a Sketch, Outline (marker), Write, and Color (paint) option. Each option cost 1.99 and provide different ways of expressing yourself. I have...

I have been testing a lot of the video options for short clip shooting and posting via the iPhone. The apps are often call the “Instagram of Video” apps. The idea is that you shoot short clips. The max length depends on the app but it is usually between 15 to 60 seconds long. No splicing of clips together is allowed. I want to make an effort to shoot short clips all s spring/summer and get them online quick. When I say quick I mean within minutes of shooting. One of the apps that I have been testing and really like is called Vlix. Vlix offers intro and exit text, music...

I am not sure if I mentioned it but I decommissioned my MAME arcade cabinet last summer. I miss it to say the least. The full size arcade cabinet was just too big for my home pub or the kids rooms. I ended up taking the hardware out, removed the control panel and put those in the storage room. The cabinet met a much worst fate. I destroyed it and took it out to the curb for the garbage man to collect. It was a sad, sad day. To give me that 80′s retro gaming fix I have had my eye on an iCade from ThinkGeek for a long time. The iCade started out as a joke but it produced so much...
Read MoreQbo the Open Source Robot
I fell in love with Qbo the first time I saw it. If you are not familar with Qbo it is an open sourse robot from a startup called TheCorpora. I would love to get my hands on one of these. It is just about the perfect present from a geek Day to his geek son. Growning up I had a BigTrak. This was what I thought of when I first saw the Qbo. The BigTrak was tank like vehicle that you could program to drive around. You set the distance and direction via a pad on the back. I loved that toy and did a presentation on it in school one year. Think Greek sells a scaled down version of the...

With all this Kindle Fire/Android talk lately I needed to make an Apple post. Can’t think of a better one than Every Third Thursday’s new project from Signal Snowboards. Putting an iPad into a ridable snowboard. Very cool! Also check out their Fender bass snowboard build and their Lethal Weapon Paintball build. The ETT team is just...
