Qbo the Open Source Robot

I fell in love with Qbo the first time I saw it. If you are not familar with Qbo it is an open sourse robot from a startup called TheCorpora. I would love to get my hands on one of these. It is just about the perfect present from a geek Day to his geek son. Growning up I had a BigTrak. This was what I thought of when I first saw the Qbo. The BigTrak was tank like vehicle that you could program to drive around. You set the distance and direction via a pad on the back. I loved that toy and did a presentation on it in school one year. Think Greek sells a scaled down version of the...

iPad Snowboard

With all this Kindle Fire/Android talk lately I needed to make an Apple post. Can’t think of a better one than Every Third Thursday’s new project from Signal Snowboards. Putting an iPad into a ridable snowboard. Very cool! Also check out their Fender bass snowboard build and their Lethal Weapon Paintball build. The ETT team is just...

Kindle Fire

Terra and I ordered two Kindle Fires as Christmas gifts for the two youngest kids. This will be their big gift this year. Amazon should be shipping them this week. If you are thinking about one of these check out the lenthy review over at The Verge. The review is what I was expecting. For the kids the Kindle Fire will be their movie watching, music playing, gaming on the go machine. Also, I think Noah will read on it instead of buying books. ...

Google TV + Plex = Media Server Heaven

I spend about two hours last night running cables through the wall from my Mac Mini to my home theater system. I wanted to get Plex running to the theater room. You see I moved my Mac Mini out of the theather room a while ago so the only opportunity to watch my ripped movie collection is on a 23” monitor in the bar area. After getting everything hooked up then I spend the vast majority of my time trying to get the resulution correct. I am running 3 monitors with the 23”, a 7” and then the theather projector. After about two hours I gave up. I just couldn’t get it...

Google TV Update Coming Soon

It is long overdue but Google TV is about to get a big update in the next few weeks. Today I received an email from Google detailing the changes. I am most excited about the ability to download apps from their Android app center. This functionality is really going to make Google TV worth it. If you remember I was giving my Google TV as part of a developer program so I did not pay for it. I was very disappointed until I finished my home theater. Now we use it all the time. I will follow up when the updated is installed and give a quick overview. Maybe I will shoot a video recap of the...
