iPhone App Review: 1337pwn

Posted by on Nov 14, 2008 in Apple, Gadgets, Reviews, xBox | 3 comments

I have a nice free iPhone app for you Xbox players. The app is called 1337pwn. To educate the non-geeks 1337 mean leet or Elite. PWN means to “own” someone or you are domination them. Who said you don’t learn anything at The House of Husar! So next time you are yelling at your kids tell them you are 1337 and you are going to PWN them! Anyway, 1337pwn lets you view your Xbox friends list on your iPhone. It tells you who is online. It also tells you what they are playing and what part of the game they are in. For example, in the screen shots below you can see that...

iPhone App Review: AirMe

Posted by on Oct 24, 2008 in Apple, Gadgets, Reviews | 0 comments

AirMe (http://www.airme.com/) is an iPhone app that allows you to take a photos, have them geotagged, and sent to Facebook, Flicker, Picasa, or Twitter. This app fills a current gap in the iPhone because when you email a photo from the iPhone using the default email app it strips off the geotag data. This is a problem is you want to map your photos location on Flickr’s map. AirMe to the rescue! AirMe is a free app that requires you to sign up for an account on their website. You will also need to authorize the app if you are using with your Flickr accont. The workflow is very...

iPhone App Review – Firepin

Posted by on Oct 18, 2008 in Apple, Gadgets, Reviews | 1 comment

I am slowing reviewing most of the GPS iPhone apps in hopes of finding the perfect app for my needs. Firepin caught my eye after I visited their website (http://firepin.com/) so I wanted to do a review right away. I went into this app review with a little grudge on my shoulder after reviewing EveryTrail. Firepin does look promising but how does it stack up against some of the other GPS iPhone apps? After downloading Firepin I decided to fire it up and do a quick track to start the day. The one thing that struck me was how easy it was to get started. It is really straight forward so no...

iPhone App Review – EveryTrail

Posted by on Oct 16, 2008 in Apple, Gadgets, Reviews | 2 comments

While my son was at soccer tonight I drove over to Center to take another GPS walk. This time I had a new weapon with me. EveryTrail. EveryTrail will track your path but it also allows you to take photos while you are tracking. It geotags the photos which is a great feature so the photos can be mapped to your track. This could be very helpful in mapping mountain biking trails. But how would it perform? I started the app by the brick building and made my way into the woods. I turned off the WiFi and Push settings on the iPhone as recommended before I started out. As I reached each trail...

iPhone App Review – iBowl

Posted by on Oct 15, 2008 in Apple, Entertainment, Gadgets, Reviews, Sports | 2 comments

iBowl is a free game that I downloaded about two weeks ago. Usually free games don’t keep my attention very long or they are a scaled down version of the app you have to pay for to get their full levels. So how does iBowl stack up against the other iPhone games? The game functions much like you would play on the Wii due to the fact that iBowl uses the accelerometers on the iPhone to simulate real bowling movements. To bowl your ball you hold down a button on the screen, swing your arm like you would a real bowling ball and release the button. It really couldn’t be much...

iPhone App Review: PhotoSwap

Posted by on Oct 9, 2008 in Apple, Gadgets, Reviews | 0 comments

PhotoSwap is a fun application I ran across the other night browsing iTunes for photography apps. PhotoSwap is a free application that lets you swap photos with someone. Photo social networking if you will. The idea is pretty simple and fun. You launch the app and take a photo. You are promoted if you want to Use Photo or Retake it. When you are happy with your photo click on the Use Photo button. PhotoSwap then locates your position using the iPhones GPS and geo tags your photo. PhotoSwap will send the photo out into cyberspace to someone that has also just submitted a photo. As far as...
