Dirty Duathlon 2011 Race Report
Sunday was the Du race. I have done this race one time before about three years ago. Back then I did it solo and it was longer with a bike, run, bike format. This year the format was a 2 mile run, 10 bike, 2 run. My friend Ryan was doing the mountain biking and I the runs. I was fully recovered from my half marathon last weekend and expecting a decent couple of runs on a 70 degree fantastic day in Iowa. Sunday I took the Flip out with me on the trail trying to mount it to the front fork and handle bars. In both cases it came loose far too often. I was hoping to get some sample video from that ride but after looking at the footage it was too jumping. I trashed it all and started thinking of how I could MacGyver the Flip to the front fork better. Just little OLD me out on the trail today. I took my Flip with me and stopped a few times to shoot some video. I was having enough fun that I did not stop very much to shoot video. Thus only a few clips in this short. I had the wide angle lens on for this one. I am loving how that turned out. Perfect match for the Flip. On another note, I am totally out of shape. What an event the Summerset Shootout turned out to be. There were more than 80 riders and a great turn out of volunteers. I was on the fence about racing. Having helped build the trails I knew how hard they were. Never having done them at race pace I knew it was gong to hurt. And hurt it did! I have only raced one other time at the Dirty Du two years ago. In the end I decided to race so I put in for Category 3. Glad I did. My old bones came in forth and was 13 seconds off the third place.
