Welcome to Jamrock

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

Just little OLD me out on the trail today. I took my Flip with me and stopped a few times to shoot some video. I was having enough fun that I did not stop very much to shoot video. Thus only a few clips in this short. I had the wide angle lens on for this one. I am loving how that turned out. Perfect match for the Flip.

On another note, I am totally out of shape. I really need to jump on the horse and start working out. I am hoping that we don’t get too much rain this week. I want to continue to burn the new trail in this week and burn off some calories. Good time working on the new trail this weekend. Even better riding them the next day!

Music by Damien Marley – Welcome to Jamrock.

You should jump out to Vimeo and watch this clip as big as possible. I am still blown away by the quality of the Flip UltraHD. Everyone needs to buy one of these for themselves for xmas. I think Amazon just had them on sale for only $150. That is $50 off what I paid for mine.

Summerset Shootout Photos

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

What an event the Summerset Shootout turned out to be. There were more than 80 riders and a great turn out of volunteers. I was on the fence about racing. Having helped build the trails I knew how hard they were. Never having done them at race pace I knew it was gong to hurt. And hurt it did!

I have only raced one other time at the Dirty Du two years ago. In the end I decided to race so I put in for Category 3. Glad I did. My old bones came in forth and was 13 seconds off the third place. Cat 3 only did 1 lap, Cat 2 did 3 laps, and the gods of Cat 1 did 5 (@#$&) laps. I did my lap in 30:52:04. To be honest my fat ass was thinking more like a 40 minute lap before we started. To put it in perspective the top Cat 1 guys were doing 23 minute laps. Ouch!

Noah raced as well and came in about 7th. Not too bad for his first race ever.

I am just beat but feel pretty good after cleaning up. Here are the photos I managed to take with my iPhone. I will get these added to the CITA pool tonight. But now I am off to get a big burrito!

Banner Race Prep

Friday, May 29th, 2009

I took a half day today at work. At lunch I went home, let the dogs out, took my oldest some Micky-D’s to her school for lunch, then headed down to Banner. The CITA brothers was already out there working on the trails prepping for the Summerset Shootout on Sunday. We did a few more hours of trial work then we all jumped on our horses and rode some dirt.

Those trails are so fricking hard I just can’t stand it. Every time I ride out there it spanks me like a little baby. I took a pretty good spill. I am averaging 1.5 falls every time I go out there. Fighting some poison ivy as a result of my folly. Blood, sweat and the itch-itch.

After I rode a lap at Banner I went home and then jumped on my single speed and headed to Ella futbol practice. My legs were already tired. Getting on the single speed and hitting the hills on the way to Sounthwood fields gave a real good burn. Good stuff!

Here are a few photos from the trail work today.

Summerset Shootout: May 31st

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

May 31st is the Summerset Shootout at Banner Lakes. This is going to be one hell of a mountain bike race! A lot of people have put in many hours to build these trails. Over 4 miles of incredible riding. They are by far the hardest and funnest that I have ridden in Iowa. We just finished the map yesterday and I think it turned out great. Click it for a bigger version.
