Dirty Duathlon 2011 Race Report
Sunday was the Du race. I have done this race one time before about three years ago. Back then I did it solo and it was longer with a bike, run, bike format. This year the format was a 2 mile run, 10 bike, 2 run. My friend Ryan was doing the mountain biking and I the runs. I was fully recovered from my half marathon last weekend and expecting a decent couple of runs on a 70 degree fantastic day in Iowa. The relay and solo open group all started together as we headed up into the woods about 1:00 PM. I was about mid pack as everyone settled into the single track. There is only enough enough...

UPDATE: See the details in bold below on how to see the elevation profile. Last Saturday I did my first century. I had no idea what to expect and really did not put much thought into it. Brian setup the ride for his wife Teri and I thought I had nothing better to do and went along for the ride. This was a gravel century that ended up being 100 miles out and back in the Iowa countryside. We started out with five riders. Brian and his wife Teri. Julie and Elaine were were along for part of the ride. We started off at 8:00 AM for Rassy’s bike shop with Brian leading us out on our...

The ride out to Adel and back is a great training ride for me. I jump on my fixie try to catch and pass as many of the geared riders as I can. When a lot of people are out on the trail it can be a really fun and challenging ride. I burn over 2000 calories on this ride so perfect for dropping a few pound. Doing it 2-3 time a week is on my summer to-do list. Add in my single track riding and losing a few pound is pretty easy. For those of you not in Iowa this is part of the Raccoon River trail and you can go over 100 miles on it. All paved double wide bike path. No street riding so it is a...

Just little OLD me out on the trail today. I took my Flip with me and stopped a few times to shoot some video. I was having enough fun that I did not stop very much to shoot video. Thus only a few clips in this short. I had the wide angle lens on for this one. I am loving how that turned out. Perfect match for the Flip. On another note, I am totally out of shape. I really need to jump on the horse and start working out. I am hoping that we don’t get too much rain this week. I want to continue to burn the new trail in this week and burn off some calories. Good time working on the...
