This is the final Pike’s Peak video.

This video is mostly at the top of Pike’s. It started snowing then hailing on us. To top it off there was a thunder storm as well. If you wait until the end my son and I were close enough to one of the lightening strikes that we felt it. My son said he could feel the electricity come out his hands. It gave my Flip a good jolt of electricity as you can see in the video. Needless to say we hightailed it to get some cover.

Pike’s Peak Adventure Part 1

We headed up Pike’s Peak while on vacation. We pretty much made a day of it stopping along the way so the kids could play on mother natures jungle gyms (aka rocks/boulders) . Of course I went with them with my trusty Flip UltraHD.

In this video the kids and I get out and play for about 45 minutes at a large rock area. Check out the rainbow in this video! There was lightening and storms not far away. I managed to capture some lightening while filming Terra. My seven year old daughter kept saying how beautiful it was. She must have said that 20 times while we were playing on the rocks.

Look close at about 2:22 for the lightening cracking down. The lighteneing will be in the upper left corner. Look below for two stills that I captured from the video.

Here are two stills from the video of two different lightening strikes as I filmed Terra. It was so fast that only part of the bolts were captured on the Flip. Click on the images to see larger versions.

Summerset Shootout Photos

What an event the Summerset Shootout turned out to be. There were more than 80 riders and a great turn out of volunteers. I was on the fence about racing. Having helped build the trails I knew how hard they were. Never having done them at race pace I knew it was gong to hurt. And hurt it did!

I have only raced one other time at the Dirty Du two years ago. In the end I decided to race so I put in for Category 3. Glad I did. My old bones came in forth and was 13 seconds off the third place. Cat 3 only did 1 lap, Cat 2 did 3 laps, and the gods of Cat 1 did 5 (@#$&) laps. I did my lap in 30:52:04. To be honest my fat ass was thinking more like a 40 minute lap before we started. To put it in perspective the top Cat 1 guys were doing 23 minute laps. Ouch!

Noah raced as well and came in about 7th. Not too bad for his first race ever.

I am just beat but feel pretty good after cleaning up. Here are the photos I managed to take with my iPhone. I will get these added to the CITA pool tonight. But now I am off to get a big burrito!

Summerset Shootout: May 31st

May 31st is the Summerset Shootout at Banner Lakes. This is going to be one hell of a mountain bike race! A lot of people have put in many hours to build these trails. Over 4 miles of incredible riding. They are by far the hardest and funnest that I have ridden in Iowa. We just finished the map yesterday and I think it turned out great. Banner Lakes Elevation Map

I took my AMOD data logger out with me today to Banner. I got a pretty good track captured. Taking my track and using the GPS Visualizer site I was able to create the following map that show elevation. I think this was pretty sweet. Zoom in close and you can really get a feel for the elevation changes on the trail. Despite blowing my front tire halfway in I did manage to make a full lap. Well, a full lap without the two expert loops anyway. I lost about 75% of the air in the tire of the rest of the ride was pretty sketchy. Not to self, take pump and tubes with me when riding Banner.
