First Mountain Biking of the Summer
Noah and I made it out to Center Trail on Tuesday. This was the first time we have rode dirt this spring/summer. The trails were in great condition and only one wet stop up on Rollercoaster. We only did a little over 6 miles on the dirt but had a great time. It is fun to see Noah progress each year. I often wonder when it will be that I can’t keep up with him. We hit hillside pretty hard and Noah did better than he ever has before. He still has not made it up the backside without stopping at least once. But that will change this year I think. With fresh legs he only had one stop...

On our last CO vacation Noah and I tried to get up to Bison Peak. Unfortunately Mother Nature was not cooperating. After seeing the GPS track I am grad we turned back when we did. We were a good ways from the peak and we were about to hit the steepest elevation gains of the hike. This is going to be a hike that we attempt again for sure. The peak is just incredible with the rock formations. They say there is nothing like it in the entire state of CO. Make me sad that we did not reach it this time. But that is just another reason to head back to CO for another attempt. Don’t forget...

Sunday I took the Flip out with me on the trail trying to mount it to the front fork and handle bars. In both cases it came loose far too often. I was hoping to get some sample video from that ride but after looking at the footage it was too jumping. I trashed it all and started thinking of how I could MacGyver the Flip to the front fork better. After some thought, Monday night I rigged up a ghetto mount out of some metal braces and furniture rubber feet floor protectors. Oh and no less than 5 zip ties. It is not very portable since I have to cut the zip ties to get it on and off each...

This is what happens when geek dad has iPhone out on the trail for the first dirt ride of 2010. I had time for a little iPhone video. Just some quick editing done in iMovie. Terra and I picked up a new bike for Noah today so we rode Roller Coaster and Hillside tonight. It is pretty brown out still here in Iowa as you can see. Looking forward to the trails getting greener. Pretty happy with the iPhone video but I think I will start to carry my Flip with me. ...

This is the final Pike’s Peak video. This video is mostly at the top of Pike’s. It started snowing then hailing on us. To top it off there was a thunder storm as well. If you wait until the end my son and I were close enough to one of the lightening strikes that we felt it. My son said he could feel the electricity come out his hands. It gave my Flip a good jolt of electricity as you can see in the video. Needless to say we hightailed it to get some cover.
