30 Run Challange: 6 of 30

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

sdc10243I got in a decent run tonight. I went for speed and not distance tonight. It was pretty nice out so I shed a few layers of my normal winter gear. Some tights, two pair of b-ball shorts, two shirt and a hat. Felt a little lighter that is for sure.

But like I said, I was trying to run faster instead of my normal fat burning sluggish trot. It was a heck of a lot faster that is for sure. I have been running 10 minute mile pace and dropped down to 8 and some change. Lungs were feeling it too.

I have to say I am not making very good progress on my 30 runs. But now that work is back to normal I should get in a handful of runs each week now. Might try to run to the gym one night this week. If it is not too wet I will get in a bike to work day as well just for the run of it. My guess is that Monday will be too wet but I will have to see. I guess I can avoid the major puddles in my short 1.6 mile ride if I try.

Here was my path tonight.

El Bait Shop Thursday

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

100 Brews on Tap @ El Bait Shop I am heading down to the El Bait Shop around 6:00 on Thursday. The Iowa Brewers Union is having a gig down there and a friend of a friend is the featured brewer. He is going to be having a Milk Stout on tap. The beer is free since local brewers can’t sell it legally. So stop on down and have a few pints. I am planning on riding down town so if anyone want to hook up along the way and ride with me just give me a shout.

Update: Here is my path. Nick I put an icon were we can meet. Let me know if this works.

Saturday at Center

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

I had a great ride today at Center. I was a little worried about the rain we had while I was in Chicago but it was not bad at all. In fact is was tacky, tasty and terrificly quick. I rode just about everything out there except roller coaster. Only a few, maybe 4, parts that had any standing water. As to not widen the trail any I rode right through the mud. I felt like I was flying out there today and it felt good – really good. I took my camera to take a bunch of photos put I was having so much fun I couldn’t bring myself to stop and shoot anything. I did manage to stop just after the trestle on the way out to snag a few photos of the graffiti.

The ride couldn’t of been much better today. Well, if someone was riding with me that would have been cool. Not really anyone one else out there today. But I do plan to wake up early if it is not raining and do it again Sunday morning.

Memorial Weekend

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

I was down in KC last weekend. We hit up the Irish Festival on Saturday night. I met up with a few friends and drank some good stout and listened a few bands. Sunday we went to the Renaissance Festival. That is a yearly thing for the Husar clan and we always enjoy it. But on Sunday afternoon after the Renaissance Festival I took Noah out to Landahl for some mountain biking. We had a great time and Noah was pushed to his limit. As soon as he got in the car he took off is shirt and had crazy sweaty hair going on. He looked pretty funny. But he was smiling from the ride.

On Monday morning I went back to Landahl to hit the harder trails alone. I think I spend over 3 hours out there riding solo. It has been five years since I rode out there and the trails here great. A few new ones as well. I forgot just how rocky it is in parts. It was great hitting Rim Job, Dave’s Maze, Root Canal, and Will’s Wanderer. Hell even the Family trail I rode hard.

But the funniest thing happened out there. I was just coming up Rib Job and was pretty tired. I pulled up next to a tree at the top of a slight hill. To my left was cliff face going up. To my right was a ravine going down. Going down steep I might add. So I pulled up next to the tree with tired legs. I pull up a little short of the tree so I cannot just grab it to hold myself up. I start leaning towards the right with the ravine is kind of playing with my mind. One of those don’t look down kind of things I think. I go to pull out of right foot from the clipins and it is not coming out. Now my clips are not any where close to being tight. I am always pull out very easy. But for some reason I couldn’t get my foot out. I start leaning more towards the ravine side a little more. Before I knew it I have one hope and one hope only to stop myself from falling done the ravine. A branch from heaven. Like an angel put it there to stop me. I grab it knowing it is my only hope to stop myself from tumbling down about 15 feet off the trail into rocks, brush and trees. I reach and grab the branch. But no luck, it is like dead and not even attached to the tree. Down I go into the ravine with my shoes still attached to the pedals. Tumbling over and over on my side. I hit hard and my head slammed a good one. I laid there for a minute then started laughing as I struggled to get my feet free. My body was in one of those positions that you see people in when you just off a building and hit the concrete.

But I got up and climbed out of the ravine back on the trail checking to make sure I could still roll out of there. Everything was good and I was happy no one rolled by to see my fall. It was a great ride and weekend. I have not run yet this week. I body doesn’t feel right and I have a little of the crud that is going around. I think I will be back to normal tomorrow.
