Amie Street Music Wednesday #29 – Minus the Bear

Amie St. Music Wednesday

I need something semi-chill today after going to the Old 97’s show last night. After a little searching on Amie Street last night I picked a nice tune from Minus the Bear. The track I chose for this week is Knights. This track sounds a bit like Guster to me. But give it a listen and judge for yourself.

The band is currently on tour. The dates are posted on their website at http://www.minusthebear.com/. Unfortunately not much else is on their website. But I was able to find a little more detail on Wikipedia. Minus the Bear is from Seattle, Washington and the band features current and former members of Botch, Kill Sadie, and Sharks Keep Moving. Although the band has release 4 albums Amie Street only has an EP called Acoustics. All 7 tracks of which is worth the price of $2.58 at the time I am writing this. You can visit Minus the Bear on Amie Street at http://amiestreet.com/artist/minus-the-bear/.

Here is also the video for this weeks track.

Amie Street Music Wednesday #28 – Carey Ott

I had a hard time picking a song for this weeks ASMW. But the long search paid off with Am I Just One by Carey Ott. Carey hails from Canada and he reminded me of when I was into the band Travis. Kind of took me back I guess. That made me want to listen to more from Carey Ott on Amie Street. The album sounds pretty good and I like the opening track that I am featuring here the best. I ran across the YouTube video below that gives a great background break down of Carey right from the man himself.

You can check Carey Ott at the standard places on the web.

Amie Street Music Wednesday #26 – The Righs

Amie St. Music Wednesday

Well I am almost two weeks into my 30 quarantine of no beer. Been hitting the gym pretty hard to see if I am lose a few pounds. But my scale is not working so I can’t tell if I am making any progress.

But back to this weeks ASMW. I almost missed it today and I am posting this very late at about 11:30 PM. So technically I am not late!

Since I can’t have a Guinness or Fat Tire I figured it was time to select a good drinking song. For me there is nothing better than a good Irish jam to make me want a beer even more. So I give you The Righs and their tracked called My Life in the Bike Scene. I found The Righs by searching the Free music this week. You can get their entire 10 track album titled The Rivers Run Deep on their Amie Street page at http://amiestreet.com/artist/the-righs/.

Sorry but I can’t find anything about the band on the web so if anyone know more let me know. Looks like I was able to find more on these guys. You can also check them out on MySpace at http://www.myspace.com/therighs. If you are an Irish music fan at all you should enjoy this album. After all it is free right now on Amie Street!

Here is a video as well…

I have discovered Jennifer O’Connor over the past week so I thought I would select her as my ASMW track this week. It is pretty rare that I find a female artist that I really like. Enough so that I can listen to her over and over. To be honest there are no female Elliot Smiths, Will Johnsons or Connor Obersts out there that I have found. But I have to say that Jennifer O’Cnnor can be classified in that elite group of singer songwriters. Jennifer O’Connor is another in a long line of good artist on Matador Records. She just released her latest album titled Here with Me on Aug. 19th.

Most of the songs from her new album are about 50 cents right now on Amies Street. Her work is well worth the price even at the full price of 99 cents a track. I find myself going back and listening to her latest album to get my hands around the lyrics.

You can check out her page on Amie Street at http://amiestreet.com/artist/jennifer-o-connor/. Her website is http://www.jenniferoconnor.net/.

But this leads me to a good questions. Where are all the Elliot Smiths of the female gender? The female versions of Will Johnson battling their own demons willing to put it all down on paper? The female Conor Obersts questioning their very existence? Do they exist? If so share them with me!

You did not think I forget about ASMW did you? Come on it is only 9:30 PM and the day is still young. Plenty of time for me to give you this weeks pick so sit back and relax already!

I am just grooving on the jam for this week. The track is called The Yellow Brick Road by Raine Maida. Raine is a singer song writer from Canada. What you probably don’t know is that Raine Maida is the vocalist and a founding member of the Canadian rock band Our Lady Peace. I am sure most of you have hear of Our Lady Peace before. Well I am not familiar with Raine’s solo stuff so this was a very pleasant find recently.

You can check out his official website at http://www.rainemaida.net/. I own this entire album from another music download subscription and it is good. Jump on over to the Riane Maida Amie Street page at http://amiestreet.com/artist/raine-maida/ and give the album a good listen. Well worth it.

Don’t forget to support your local music scene by going to see them live. There is very little that is better than live music people!
