Welcome to Jamrock

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

Just little OLD me out on the trail today. I took my Flip with me and stopped a few times to shoot some video. I was having enough fun that I did not stop very much to shoot video. Thus only a few clips in this short. I had the wide angle lens on for this one. I am loving how that turned out. Perfect match for the Flip.

On another note, I am totally out of shape. I really need to jump on the horse and start working out. I am hoping that we don’t get too much rain this week. I want to continue to burn the new trail in this week and burn off some calories. Good time working on the new trail this weekend. Even better riding them the next day!

Music by Damien Marley – Welcome to Jamrock.

You should jump out to Vimeo and watch this clip as big as possible. I am still blown away by the quality of the Flip UltraHD. Everyone needs to buy one of these for themselves for xmas. I think Amazon just had them on sale for only $150. That is $50 off what I paid for mine.

Banner Lakes – Kicking Arse and Taking Name

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

No I was not doing the kicking and taking name. Banned took my name and kicked my arse tonight.

I went out after work and jumped on the mountain bike for my first ride on the new trails at Iowa’s newest state park. Boy oh boy I was working hard trying to make it up those hills and negotiation the twists and turns. I actually felt sick afterward in the parking lot. I was a little bloody as well. It was one heck of a good time. I can’t wait until I can ride the trails good enough to not have to push in a few stop. Okay, maybe more than a few stops.

I have worked out building the trails a few times now but have not ridden them until tonight. So it was a little eye opening for me. Sitting in a saddle is much different than walking the trails. Who would have thought. :)

I took my data logger with me so geo code some photo but I only ended up taking two photos. First here is my track. I did not have my data logger on the most accurate setting so main section at the top I did out and back and it has two tracks over it. I need to remember to adjust the data logger next time.

And here are the two photo from the ride. The first photo makes me wish I stopped to take more photos. The second one is my bike dead just like I was after my ride.

Banner Trail Building

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

I finally made it out a Banner trail building day last Saturday. There is still minor things to do but the trail is just about ready for its first Mountain Bike race The Summerset Shootout. Noah and I were out there killing all the poison ivy and spraying some of the other stuff along the trail’s edge.

I have walked and worked on these trails last year. But this year walking them I have to say I got pretty excited to ride them in the hear future. All the ridge line riding is going to be very cool. It will most likely be too hard for Noah to ride the majority of the trails but maybe after this year he will be able to tackle some of the harder/steeper sections.

Here are a few photos from my iPhone along the way plus some beer and pizza afterward.

Banner Lakes Hike GPS and Photos

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

I got out to Banner Lakes today and took Noah with me to get in a praying before the first frost. I have not helped much with the CITA trail work this fall so I need to get out and do some work. Noah and I parked by the shooting range and heading out on the trails. We filled up the sprayers at the first bridge and started killing some weeds! I took two bottles of RoundUp in my backpack. We walked and fill the sprayers up as we hiked.

The trail was in really good shape. One of the long bridges needs some attention and there was one tree down. Other than that no problems. If we had two days of warm weather left you could ride them for sure. Actually you would ride 90% of what we walked today right now. The hills going up would be too slick but the rest would be real nice. Check out the GPS and photos from our hike below. Zoom in and you can tell where we have to fill up the sprayers. It was a great day for it as well. Hopfully my efforts will keep the weeds down come springs.
